I did not say Yorubas are rascals

LAGOS, Nigeria – Publisher of Champion Newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyamwu has been elected President General of the pan-Igbo social cultural and political group, Ohaneze Ndigbo. He was unanimously elected during the congress of the body on Sunday.
Speaking on his election on Arise News, he said that for the first time Ohaneze Ndigbo President was elected without any acrimony and that some governors of the Southeast were also at the event. He said he will use his tenure to ensure that Igbo prosper in their business enterprise.
He said that he will set up a committee for that and that there is plenty of coal deposit in the South East that must be explored to power the region. Iwuanyawu thanked the National Assembly for the bill that has put power generation and distribution on the concurrent list so that both the state and the federal government can be players in the sector.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the work he has done in the south east, making reference to the Niger bridge, which he said has been completed and the dredging of the Oguta Lake to enable it take care of heavy vessels. He also referred to the road linking Port Harcourt which he said is nearing completion.
The publisher said he never said that Yorubas are rascals as was purveyed in the social media, adding that what he said was edited out of contest and that Channels TV and others were at the event. He said that technology has advanced to such an extent that another person’s voice could be inserted into the statement made by somebody, a development he said portends danger.
The publisher said that the Igbos and Yorubas have lived together for decades and have done business successfully with Yorubas and others, adding that they don’t cheat and that they buy their properties if they are interested.
He said those he described as rascals are those causing problems for the Igbo people, describing calls for Igbo to leave Lagos as the height of intolerance that should never be tolerated especially in the 21st century.
He said what happened in Lagos during the 2023 general election was uncalled for and should never be allowed to happened in the history of Nigeria. He said that he is happy that prominent Yoruba sons have condemned it and he urged government to also condemn the development.
He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to release leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu before May 29 when he will be out of office since the courts have already discharged and acquitted him.
