German players Kilian Zierer and Lorenz Metz have signed with NFL teams Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears respectively as undrafted free agents following the last round of the NFL draft on Saturday evening.
Zierer, an offensive tackle, inked a deal with the Texans, the official NFL Germany account said on Sunday. During his college football career, he played for the Auburn Tigers from Auburn, Alabama.
After missing his first season in 2020 due to an injury, he made his breakthrough last year when he played every single game for Auburn as a left tackle.
Metz, meanwhile, signed with the Bears. “Can’t wait to get to work! I’m feeling so blessed for this opportunity,” the guard wrote on Twitter.
Last season, he started the final five games of the college football season with the Cincinnati Bearcats from Ohio after he battled injuries in the offseason.
Both players come from Bayern and will now have to fight for a place in the final 53-man squad in their respective teams. The list is to be announced before the start of the regular season in September. If they don’t make it to the final squad, they still get a place in the practice squad.
