BERLIN- German top distance runner Konstanze Klosterhalfen has left her long time sponsors Nike and found a new coach while continuing to train in the United States.
Klosterhalfen, 26, was part of the Nike Oregon Project group which was disbanded in 2019 after a doping rules related four-year ban for coach Alberto Salazar but she continued to train there under Salazar’s former assistant Pete Julian.
But it has now been announced that she has switched to sports goods makers Puma and will train in their group in North Carolina under Alistair Cragg.
Klosterhalfen won the European 5,000 metres title last year in Munich and world championship bronze over the distance 2019 in Doha.
She holds various national records and in 2022 recorded the third best time of a European runner on her half marathon debut in Valencia.
Puma said that Klosterhalfen’s season debut is planned for May 5 at the Diamond League opener in Doha.
