ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja on Wednesday restrained the Imo State Governor, Mr. Hope Uzodinma from arresting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP House of Representative candidate in Ideato, Chief Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.
Justice Ajoke Adepoju who was ruling on motion experte filled by counsel to Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere praying the court to restrain the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma or agents of the state government from arresting or invading his Imo State home for any arrest.
The court also set aside any warrant of arrest already issued by any court in Imo state and that the Imo State Government be served by substituted service in the newspaper or by pasting on the wall at government house.
The Coalition of United Political Party, CUPP had earlier raised the alarm that the state government was planning to arrest Ugochinyere on trump up charges of terrorism and related offences to put him aside for the period of the election and release him later.
The CUPP also alleged that there are intelligence that the Imo state governor had perfected a ploy to procure a warrant of arrest from an Imo State magistrate to effect his arrest.
The CUPP also put the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to protect him from forces who are determined to eliminate him after several failed attack on his life, one of which led to the destruction of his home and death of his uncle.
