ABUJA, Nigeria – Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has assured Nigerians that the 2023 general election scheduled for February and March will hold as scheduled.

The Presidential and National Assembly election will hold Saturday, February 25, followed by governorship and houses of assembly election on Saturday, March 11.

Yakubu made the revelation while presenting the updated voter register to registered political parties taking place in the general election.

He said that INEC  will not postpone the election based on assurance the agency has received from security agencies adding that any other statement to the contrary has not emanated from INEC.

He said a total of 93, 469, 008 Nigerians are eligible to participate in the general election and that the commission will not make any further adjustment to the register.

Based on the current register, Lagos emerged with the highest number of registered voters with 7, 060, 195 million, followed by  Kano State with 5,921,370 registered voters. Kaduna is next with 4, 335,208. River State has 3, 537,190 voters and Katsina with 3, 516, 719 registered voters.
