NEPAL – Not less than 68 people have been confirmed dead as a passenger plane in Yeti Airlines, ANC ATR 72 crashes in Nepal.  A total of 72 people were said to be aboard the plane, which took off from Kathmandu enroute  tourist town of Pokhara.

Sixty eight bodies have been recovered from the scene. The plane according to aviation sources crashed in the hills near the Pokhara airport.

There are 57 Nepalis aboard the plane and 15 foreigners.  Spokesman of Yeti Airlines, Sudarshan Bartaula said  the 15 foreigners include 5 people from India, 4 Russians, 2 Koreans, and 1 person each from Australia, Argentina, Ireland and France.

Search and rescue operation is presently ongoing at the scene of the crash.

Speaking on the incident, Prime Minister of Nepal, Comrade Prachanda said he is saddened by the development  and appealed to all government agencies to immediately commence search and rescue operation.

“I am deeply saddened by the sad and tragic accident of Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72 which was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara with passengers.

“I sincerely appeal to the security personnel, all agencies of the Nepal government and the general public to start an effective rescue”, Comrade Prachanda said.
