QATAR – It was a classic encounter at the Al Bayt stadium in Qatar, that ended with Germany having the upper hand in the 4-2 defeat against Costa Rica but the defeat could not earn the team a slot in the round of 16, forcing Germany out of the soccer fiesta.
As expected, Germany came into the game like a wounded lion doing all it can to avoid the embarrassment of not getting through the group stages for the first time.
Germany opened the score line in the 10th minutes, when Sergy Gnabry found the back of Costa Rica net with his head. Germany held on to the 1-0 lead until halt time.
Costa Rica made it 1-1 in the 58th minutes when Tejeda hit the German net. Costa Rica shot ahead of the German machines in the 70th minutes through Neuer.
Havertz leveled up for the Germans to make it 2-2. Havertz got another chance in the 85th minutes to make it 2-3 in favour of Germany while Fullkrug assisted by Sane made it 2-4 for Germany one minute to full time.
It was an emotional one for the Germans who tried all they could but lost out after coming third in their group.
