Warns corps members to be politically neutral

AWKA, Anambra, Nigeria – Acting Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mrs Christy Uba has warned corps members against involvement in any act capable of destroying their lives .
She gave the warning at the weekend, during the NYSC Anambra state 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 cultural carnival held at the state permanent orientation camp, Umuawulu Mbaukwu in Awka south. She said that the scheme loves corps members, wishing evey member successful completion of the service year.
According to her, those who would wish to engage in 2023 general election most play by the rules and be neutral and apolitical.
“2023 general election is around, be carefully if you most participate. We don’t want to lose any of you, your parents love you and we love you too.
“You must follow the guidelines, if you most participate in general elections. General election is an adhoc assignment. You most be neutral and apolitical, do not participate in a wrong manner that will destroy you . You are not a politician but you maybe in future. If you run foul of any electoral laws, you are going to prison and NYSC will not cover you up. Once they come to us that you have committed a crime ,we will surrender you to face the law.
“Participation in general election is voluntary, it is optional, you have the choice to make ,if you decide to participate make sure you attend all the necessary trainings so that you understand their rules” he said .
She also urged all the corps members to be security conscious at all time where they are , noting that security issues should not be left alone in the hands of security agencies .
According to her,” Security is everybody’s business, if any one sees something he most say something so that the security operatives will serve better”. She urged them to be of good conduct and be disciplined at all time while in the service.
Uba also advised the Corps members to shun drug addiction, cultism and other social vices that are capable of destroying their future
The DG also appealed to corps members to always shun making unnecessary travelling and being in a place at the wrong time.
“Please always tell your neighbor where you are going so that people will know where you are at all time. Avoid free ride, especially the girls, if you most travel get clearance and board vehicle at a recognized park and transporters” she appealed .
The state coordinator of NYSC Mrs Blessing Ekene Aruma who welcomed DG to the state orientation camp described her visit as home coming . She said that one of key cardinal points of the scheme was to create unity and bonds among Nigerian youths
According to her, every tribe was represented at the carnival, showcasing their culture and traditions.
“Today is a special day, because we are celebrating the culture of Nigeria. Nigeria has diverse culture and all the cultures are here represented in the camp” she said .
She commended the AG DG for having time to visit the Anambra state orientation camp, noting that she is on home coming to the state.
The high light of the event was the conferment of Adadioronma title on the DG by the corps members and display of various cultural dances, attires and foods.
