MINNA, Niger – A Niger State High court sitting in Minna today issued warrant of arrest on Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya and Commandant of Training, Doctrine Command, Minna, Commander Olugbenga Olabanji for contempt of court contempt of court.
Justice Halima Abdulmalik issued the warrant of arrest based on Order 42, Rule 10 of the Niger State High court civil rule procedure 2018.
“An order is made committing the Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya and the Commandant, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Minna, i.e the 6th and 7th respondents into custody, of the correctional centre for contempt of the order of this honourable court made on 12/10/22 . they shall remain in custody of the correctional centre until they purge themselves of the contempt”, Justice Abdulmalik ruled.
The court issued the order in a pending suit between Adamu Makama and 42 others vs the governor of Niger state and seven others.
The applicant, Muhammed Liman had made filed the application to commit the respondents to prison for disobeying an order in made by the court in October.
The Minna court is issuing the order after the Supreme Court issued an order committing the Inspector general of Police, IGP to three months imprisonment for disobeying a judgement to reinstate a dismissed police officer.
The IGP is still walking the street a free man.
