LAGOS, Nigeria – Every November 13 is marked “World Kindness Day”. It is a global day that promotes the importance of being kind to each other.
Marked every year since 1998, it aims at promoting kindness around the world. The theme of World Kindness Day for the year 2022 is “Be Kind Whenever Possible.”
Mark Twain, an American writer once wrote “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” Additionally, Dr Celestine Agoziem of the Faculty of Arts, Lagos State University comments, “Unfortunately, the spirit of kindness is receding as against what it used to be.”
Dr. Agoziem concludes by saying, “It seems that empathy and sympathy will soon disappear from our vocabulary. People will make video recordings of tragic moments with their devices instead of rendering immediate help. Compassion is becoming rare.”
“We need to display an act of kindness every day.” says Olusegun Eroyemi, the spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Nigeria. He said while unkindness is fast becoming the norm, there is the need for continuous Bible education to help people cultivate this quality.
Mr. Eroyemi said that kindness is an active quality that will have a positive effect on families, neighborhoods and institutions. He noted that when husbands and wives show kindness to each other, family peace can exist.
The home page of the official web site of Jehovah’s Witnesses, https://www.jw.org. is currently featuring the article “Kindness—Essential in the Sight of God.”
There are over 10,000 articles along with videos on the subject of kindness. These are available free for download in about 1,060 languages on jw.org.
