AMAWBIA, Awka, Nigeria – Residents of Adabebe village Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Council of Anambra State have  banned all  political parties from campaigning in the community following two years of darkness in the area.

Members of the town had on Monday banned candidates for  National and State Assembly not to near their villages to canvases for votes .

This threat is coming just as the villagers are  sourcing for  N 4.5 million for the installation of a newly acquired transformer to service the area. Our reporter gathered that ,some  villagers    have been relocating to other villages following the collapse of an old power transformer that has been in use for  over thirty years.

The old transformer has occasioned the failure of power supply by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC and none of the politicians has deemed it necessary to help in restoring power to the area.

According to the spokesman of the village,  Nze Uchenna Chukwuka , political activities would not be allowed in Adabebe village until electricity power supply is restored to the village.

“We have resolved to drive away any national and state assembly campaign by political parties and their candidates.

“This has become necessary because in the last two years we have not had electric power supply in Adabebe and the old transformer has gone bad and we already have a new one that we are trying to mount and is will cost about N4.5 million and nobody is responding to us ” he stated.

Chukwka noted  that despite letters shared to people and politicians non has deemed it fair and just to come to our aide and tomorrow they would start disturbing us to vote for them.

According to him, the villagers  would pull down campaign canopies and chairs for campaigns in the area, noting  that  posters and bill boards are not allowed until the new transformer is mounted and full electricity power supply restored in the area.

“We are particular about this issue of power supply and we will not allow anyone that claims to be contesting election to hold any rally here in Adabebe village” he said.
