WASHINGTON – World’s richest man, Elon Musk has taken over the management of Twitter. Elon Musk announced the development on his Twitter handle, when he said “ the bird is free”.

Earlier, he was seen walking into Twitter headquarter with a white handwash basin. He also changed his handle to Chief Tweet at Twitter HQ, with over 110 million followers.

Already, he has sacked  top management staff of the organisation. According to AP, those sacked include Twitter Chief Executive Officer, Parag Agrawal, Chief Finance Officer, Ned Segal and general counsel Vijaya Gadde.

Speaking on the USD 44 billion acquisition, Musk said, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens brands and grows enterprise.

“To everyone who has partnered with us, I thank you. Let us build something extraordinary together”, he said”, adding “the reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilisation to have  a common digital town square, where a wide range of  beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.

“There is currently great danger that the social media will splinter into far right wing echo chambers that generate  more hate and divide our society”, he said.

He explained that in the relentless pursuit of  clicks,  much of the traditional media has fueled and  catered to those polarised  extremes as they believe that is what brings  in the money,  but in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue is lost.
