KENYA – Former Deputy President of Kenya, Mr. Ruto William has been elected president of Kenya. He polled over 7 million votes to defeat his closest rival, Raila Odinga, who scored 6, 942, 960 votes.
Speaking after he was handed a congratulatory handshake by the chairman of election committee, he said the election has raised the bar, adding that it surpassed ethnic configuration which has bedeviled elections in Kenya.
“The People of Kenaya have raised the bar, not to sell our ethnicity, but to cell our programs, our plans”, he said adding that there are no losers.
“The people of Kenya have won because we have raised the political bar”, Ruto William said, adding that the people of Kenya who voted are the greatest winners.
“Thank God for getting us to this point, that today, we have concluded this election”, he said adding that the IDPC surprised everybody and congratulated the IDPC for raising the bar by uploading results online and making it available to anybody to view and tally.
“That you put the result on a public portal that all Kenyans can access, that is the game changer”, he said and that he will run a transparent open government.
“I will work with opposition to ensure that they provide oversight of my government”.
He thanked partners and the diplomatic community that were part of the process and pledged to work with all elected people to move Kenya forward.
William Samoei Arap Ruto was Deputy President of Kenya since 2013. He ran under the UDA party in the 2022 presidential election.
In the 2013 presidential election, Ruto was elected the Deputy President alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta under the Jubilee Alliance ticket.
