Courts shut, many empty as Lagos judiciary holds settlement week

LAGOS, Nigeria – Most of the courts in Lagos State were under lock and keys today, with many others empty as the Lagos Judiciary begins settlement week.

The settlement week commenced July 18^th and it is expected to last until Friday, July 22^nd, 2022. Checks by www.starconnectmedia.com revealed that the settlement week will dovetail into the Legal week which will commence July 26^th until September 16^th 2022.

The usually busy passage to courts that handle land cases in Ikeja, Lagos

In a statement, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba said the vacation is based on Order 49, Rule 4(D) of the High Court of Lagos State.

Alogba also announced the following as vacation judges, Justice O. A. Taiwo, from Monday, the 25^th day of July, 2022 to 5^th day of August 2022 ; Hon Justice O. A Okunugba from Monday, 8^th day of August, 2022 to 22^nd August, 2022; Justice A.O Adeyemi from the 22^nd day of August to Friday, the 2^nd day of September.

Justice Y. R. Pinhero will take over from Monday, the 5^th day of September to 16^th day of September 2022.

However, during a visit earlier today, our correspondent gathered that all the courts at Justice Omotosho complex were empty. In fact, there was no light at the time of our visit, while some of the courts were under lock and keys. Similar situations were also noticed in other courts in the main building housing 98 percent of courts in Ikeja.

It was only in one of the courts in Ikeja, the court directly under Justice Hakeem Oshodi that our correspondent noticed officials settling cases for those who have showed up for the settlement week.
