LAGOS, Nigeria – It is no longer news that the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has joined Labour Party, (LP) and he is now poised to fly the presidential ticket of the party.
Peter Obi formerly joined the party after concluding formality by registering for the party in his local government in Anambra State, the LP announced.
Confirming the development, Peter Obi said on his Twitter handle: “Therefore, I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family. I invite all Nigerians to join me in taking back our country. Be assured that I’ll never let you down”, he assured.
Addressing Nigerians on the development, LP said, Great Nigerians, I assure you that with @PeterObi Your labour shall not be in vain”, this message was all that was needed for Peter Obi, who is regarded as the most qualified Nigerian to vie for the President of Nigeria to set the internet on fire.
It was one tweet after another, with messages about his candidacy trending on twitter at the highest, exceeding 70,000 and still rising on a day that prominent candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also trended on Twitter with a little over 27,000.
Ironically, Peter Obi, adjudged as the cleanest, incorrupt and most credible candidate in the Presidential race is trending among the youths who have adopted him without him spending one kobo. “It is love of the masses for him”, one supporter said.
The youths, among them, some elderly ones and the physically challenged also took this message to the street, with their #1millionmanmarch for Peter Obi, and the message resonated far and wide.
Even prior to his defection to LP after dumping PDP, he paid a visit to the new baby in the north, the New Nigerian Peoples Party(NNPP), which has former governor of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso as Presidential candidate.
It was then that youth made it very clear on the social media that they will move with Peter Obi, whom they now consider as their messiah to any party and that was what has exactly happened on the day Peter Obi set his foot on Labour Party, which actually lacked any mention on the social media prior to this.
To actually, send a strong message that they meant business, one of the strongest campaigner for Peter Obi on the social media, Nefertiti@firstladyship said: “We will go from door to door like the Jehovah’s Witnesses, campaigning for Peter Obi of the Labour Party. Am I making sense?”, she said, adding “INEC is considering extending the timetable for the primaries of the political parties.
“Peter Obi FC, please appeal to INEC to extend the deadline for Online PVC Registration as well. The deadline is in 3 days. We cannot elect Obi without our PVCs. Tag INEC & ask for extension”, she said.
Another supporter said, “My president! Anywhere u go I go! I will personally print 50,000. Posters for ur campaign in my LGA. Amuwo Odofin Local Government! Labour Party we moooooovvvvvvveee!”, Uche Duke Eseka said, and it is same message among the youths on social media.
Labour Party rounded its sudden and unparalleled visibility on the social media this way, “Don’t believe the political jobbers and faux analysts saying Peter Obi cannot win the 2023 election.
“They said Obi cannot win PDP primaries and Obi defeated their predictions by pulling out of the primary. Peter Obi is a disrupter. He will disrupt the system. Let’s follow him”, the LP said. Whether or not Peter Obi will win is open for debate. However, former governor of Ondo State, Mr. Olusegun Mimiko, moved to the LP and defeated PDP and APC to become governor of Ondo State. So, nothing is impossible.

His clean record in public service, leaving the state with about N75 billion credit, which he could have converted to security votes and take out of circulation.
His reign in Anambra brought peace and serenity in the state. Besides, he is known for economic management, always flying in Economy Class with few aides anytime he travels out while he was governor, very cautious when it comes to spending public funds. This is very novel among Nigerian leaders, who are used to a life of waste.
Besides, his message, of “Nothing to share again”, and that he will move Nigerian from a consuming nation to a productive country”, and his quest to make public officers to spend only the Naira unlike the present love among politicians to spend the US Dollars is another issue.
“As President you will go to jail for spending the US Dollar”, he said. I am not desperate to be President of Nigeria. I am desperate to see Nigeria work, I am pained that a country with all the potentials to work is not working.
“For me it is not a gang up, yes people don’t like my brand of politics… Manufacturers, genuine businessmen are looking for dollars for spares, for inputs, for critical goods, they cannot find it, and we politicians are sharing dollars.
“Let me tell you that one of the greatest measure of any country’s economic stability is their currency. It is an abomination that somebody serving in government is spending other another person’s currency in his government. I will say it any day that if I am president, if any government officials is spending Dollars, he will go to jail.
