JENIN, Palestine – It’s another sad day for the noble profession of journalism. The setting was in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank.
Shireen Abu Akleh(51), a lovely journalist with Aljazeera News was in Jenin Refugee camp, with her colleagues to film continued raid by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
But his reports did not get to the office, she became the object of the news when Israeli forces rained live bullets into her skull, leaving her dead, even when she was wearing her protective press vest.
A colleague, Ali Al Samoud, who was filming with Shireen said the Israeli forces shot them without asking them to leave. “The Israelis are killers, they specialise in killing only Palestinians”, he said.
“I was hit by one bullet, while Shireen was shot in the face”, he said in hospital. He explained that there was no attack from anywhere on the Israeli army by any Palestinian militants contrary to statement issued by Israel.
Palestinian Fatah movement has condemned the attack, calling it murder in cold blood. The incident so angered the local residents that they carried Shireen, clad with her press vest, around the street, mourning her departure.
We gathered that Shireen was shot point blank in the face.
There are reports that it is not the first time that Israeli forces have killed journalists covering the occupied territory.
Experts say that Israel has continued to act with impunity due to failure by the international community continued to bring Israel to account for its crimes.
Shireen is well known to Israel for covering Israeli massacre in the occupied territory.
Shireen has worked at Ajazeera for 20 years.
