MARIUPOL – Not less than 959 Ukraine fighters held at the Azov Steel Plant have surrendered to Russia, the Kremlin has said.
Some of the members of the Azovstal Regiment in Mariupol, who had vowed to fight till death were later put on buses marked Z and escorted to Russian backed separatist area for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Russian prosecutor is making a request that members of the Azovstal Regiment be declared terrorist organization, adding that the Azovstal fighters were animals in human form, adding that they have committed war crimes against Russian forces in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine asking for prisoner swap. Some other fighters still trapped in the plants have reiterated their resolve to continue to defend Ukraine.
Ukraine has said it is doing “everything possible and impossible” to save the remaining fighters trapped in Mariupol’s Azovstal steelworks, a senior official has told the BBC.
