ONITSHA, Anambra – Presidential Aspirant on platform of Accord, Dr. Solomon Wining has commended the National Assembly for the recent passage of Nigerian Peace Corps Bill.
The bill sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South) was recently passed by the Senate. Wining in a statement by his media aide Nze Nweke Nweke, described the bill as a well thought out initiative designed to empower youths of the country.
According to him, it will create opportunity for gainful employment among the youths in the face of increasing unemployment in the country.
Wining said that the Nigeria’s Peace Corps bill, when implemented, would empower, develop and provide gainful employment for the youths as well as, facilitate peace, volunteerism, community services, neighborhood watch, and nation-building among others.
He suggested that the scheme be shouldered with the responsibility of training the youths to advance the course of peace-building and conflict resolution through peace education and mediation among communities where there are crises in Nigeria,
The Accord presidential aspirant, also called for equity and fairness in the activities of recruitment into the Corps as soon as it is operational.
“I am happy that at last, the Nigerian Peace Corps has been given legislative backing by the National Assembly. I hereby call for the bill to be assented to by the President since the Corps will be of great benefit to the Nigerian youths as many of them will be gainfully employed through it’s establishment” he said
He advised the youths to make themselves available during the recruitment process. Wining assured that he would introduce more avenues to create more employment opportunities for the youths, if elected as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
