LAGOS, Nigeria – Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III has congratulated Urhobo Progressive Union(UPU) as it marks 90 years of existence and unifying Urhobo people.
The ceremony was held at Urhobo Cultural Centre, Uvwiemuge-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government of Delta State.
In a goodwill, he personally signed addressed to UPU, the Atuwatse III felicitated with the UPU, which he described as the foremost union in Urhoboland as it celebrates 90 years of bringing Urhobo people together for progressive and constructive development.
“As designed by God in His wisdom, we are your closest neighbor, like the Bible says in Proverbs 27:10 “better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away”, he said, adding that this divine connection has grown over the centuries and produced fruits in marriages, businesses and several other collaborations that gladdens our heart as we send this goodwill message.
In the words of the Olu of Warri, in any relationship, there must be lows and highs. “Today, the throne of our forebears focus on the highs as we continually pray for the lows to become highs as we strengthen the element that unite us as a family”, he noted, adding “May God bless Urhoboland, may God bless Delta State and bless Nigeria”, he said.
Reporting on the celebration, President of Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja, Chief Jonathan Esin who led his delegation from Abuja to Ughelli said he presented to the President General of Urhobo Progress Union, Dr. Moses Talga the Urhobo development roadmap, which he and his colleagues worked tirelessly to prepare in Abuja.
The document, according Chief Jonathan Esin contains the way forward for Urhoboland in the next one or two decade.
He reported that the UPU was happy to receive the working document, which he described as well illuminated to elevate and transform Urhoboland to the land of Eldorado.
“They were all very happy that we did this job, I am glad, my colleagues and I who are here today congratulate UPU for its 90th anniversary. There can be no more opportune time to do this than now. We look forward to implementing the roadmap”, he said.
