GERARD, Ikoyi, Nigeria – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA and other emergency responders have mobilized to the scene of a 21 storey building that collapsed  at the Gerard Road, Ikoyi.

The 21-storey building is under construction in the highbrow Lagos when it collapsed on those working on site.

Ikoyi is one of the most developed areas in Lagos where the super rich live , employing most of the best contractors in building construction. It is not clear if inferior materials were deployed in the construction of the building.

So far, about 2 of the workers on site have been rescued with many still trapped under the rubble.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and The Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations, it’s counterpart, Hon. Comm for Physical Planning and DG LASEMA are fully on ground, a statement signed by  LASEMA Director General, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said in as a statement.

According to him, all first responders are at the scene while  heavy duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched to the scene to assist those trapped in the basement of the building.
