LAGOS, Nigeria – The Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) is set to receive ISO 9001 Certification from the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) at the headquarters of the organization in Abuja.
President of ITPN, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja over the weekend, noted that the certification of the Institute is important for the Institute as a global brand that operates its training and certification programs in travel tourism of Nigeria in line with global standards and practices.
He said the certification of the Institute by the Standard Organization is a testimony and clear demonstration of the quality of the service delivery of the Institute which is in compliance with world standards desirous of an Institute like ITPN.
It would be recalled that at glamorous ceremony in 2018, ITPN was awarded License of certification as an Awarding Body for tourism training and certification by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) which was performed by the Minister of Education Alhaji Adamu Adamu to formally flag-off the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) at the Nigeria University Commission, Abuja
The ITPN is a higher, vocational and tertiary level professional organization, established to furnish the Nigerian tourism industry with professional personnel who can provide good quality standard of products and services with such additional objectives as providing education and membership structure aimed at guaranteeing excellent standards of service within Tourism and related Industries; promoting professional ethics and efficiency in tourism administration and practice and providing accreditation, education, and certification in all branches of Tourism study centres among others.
The ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified and used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity as having met the desired global quality standard in its programs of practice as certified of ISO 9001.
This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. These principles are explained in more detail in ISO’s quality management principles.
Using ISO 9001 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits for improved business processes and consistent delivery of quality products and services to customers.
Award of the ISO 9001 to ITPN will spur it into pursuing its mission statement to enhance the status of tourism, and those engaged in the tourism profession and promote higher global standards as well as achieve its vision of providing tourism sector personnel with professional ladder for competitive quality product and service delivery in pursuant of the Institute’s commitment to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism taking cognizance of the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization of adopting the objectives of the Organization and constantly make efforts to practice and develop the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism of the UNWTO.
