Plans N1 billion donation

LAGOS – Nigerian Afrobeat musician and present talk of the town David Adeleke better known as Davido has raised a total of N201 million in three days.
Davido who made the revelation in a very sobre video he uploaded online said it is unbelievable that Nigerians could love him that much. He said it was something that started like a joke in his hotel balcony and that today he has raised 201 million. Davido who said he is adding his own donation of N50 million to the N201 million to make a total of N251 million said he was really touched by the donations.
“Right now, we are about 201 million and we are going to donate all to Nigerians. Apart from the N201 million , I will be adding N50 million of my own to make it N251 million which we will donate to Nigerians”, he said.
He said he had wondered whether it is really ideal to be good, after opening his doors widely for everybody and that the past three days has thought him so much that goodness is a worthy cause. He said he was touched that people were donating N5,000, N2,000, and N500 and N100 which could be their last kobo but they donated it to his cause.
Davido, a very lively musician, who was short of shedding tears in this emotional state said he plans to donate the money to motherless baby homes and charity foundation throughout the federation. He appealed to his colleague that if 201 million could be raised in just three days, then it is possible to raise a billion Naira.
Davido said he plans to raise N1 billion in December which he also hopes to donate to foundations and charitable organisations in the Nigeria. He said it will now be a yearly activity on his birthday to raise money and donate to charity.
The musician who will be celebrating his 29th birthday on Sunday, November 21 said he decided to drop the video today since he will be very busy on Sunday. He said that though he may not need the money, but it is a lot of money.
However, he has set up a 5 man committee who will receive and distribute the money to foundations and charitable organisations in Nigeria. The committee has Mrs. Titi Adebayo as Chairman, a woman he described as very amazing that has done a lot for her community. Other members of the committee are Professor Jonathan Nwosu Secretary, Professor Yohana Joel Asabe of the Northern Nigerian Seventh Day Adventist Union Conference, Dr. Oyalabu of Spring Time Development Foundation and Professor Uloma Onuoha.
He said he already has a foundation called Parochi which has been on for about 4 years now to get youths off the streets and get them off drugs. He said it was a foundation he started with his friends.
