LAGOS, Nigeria – One person has been confirmed dead and several others injured when armed robbers invaded the Wema Bank branch in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers arrived the bank around 3:00 pm on Tuesday and operated for about 30 minutes carting away large sum of cash.
The robbers, we gathered shot sporadically and engaged the policemen on duty in a gun battle before fleeing the scene with their loot.
The Wema Bank branch remains the only bank serving residents of Ikirun, Iragbiji, Iree, Ada, Okuku and other adjoining
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in Osun, Yemisi Opalola said a tactical team has been deployed to trail the robbers with a view to arresting them.
Osun state has in recent times been notorious for attacks by armed robbers.
