ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Governor of Abia state Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu has stated that the Igbo were called dot in a circle because they are not politically conscious. Ikpezu stated this on Tuesday during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Launch of e-registration and CVR drive in Anambra state for its members.
“We are called dot in a circle because we don’t vote and we don’t have voting cards. We are not really interested in voting , we are only interested in importing containers without knowing that one person can use N50 pen to cancel our importation for the year. We must come out and register and be active in political process of our country” he said.
Okezie Ikpeazu, enjoined Anambra voters to get ready to vote and protect their votes from the polling unit to collection centres till victory is assured because according to him, their destinies were in their hands.
The Edo State governor and Chairman of the E-Registration, Mr Godwin Obaseki, who flagged off the event , amidst other leaders of PDP in Southern Nigeria, said that PDP chose Anambra State as first state to launch its e- registration due to the November 6 gubernatorial poll.
Obaseki, said the leadership of the party across 326 electoral wards of the state would drive the registration among the populace to ensure that every person is registered.
According to him, e- registration would be easier for the party to identify with its members, noting that with the electronic voting, it would be difficult for anyone to rig the forthcoming election. On his part, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, while recalling how PDP break the jinx in his state and South West said that nobody can rig the election in Anambra state unless the people agree.
According to him, the PDP chieftains will be on ground during the election and nobody can change the will of the people in the state . He urged the party followers not to be afraid as PDP stalwarts across the country were solidly with them and would work with them for success of Ozigbo.
The Governorship candidate of the party for Anambra 2021, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, also stressed importance of the electronic registration, and implored eligible voters in the state to equally participate on the continuous voters registration to qualify to vote.
