LAGOS, Nigeria – The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has launched electronic membership registration for members and Continuous Voter Registration exercises in Anambra State, aimed at beefing up the numerical strength of members and supporters and emerge victorious in the November 6,2021 Governorship poll.
Launching the e-registration I CVR in Awka, the state capital, Chairman of PDP e-registration and CVR Committee and Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, alongside other leaders of PDP in Southern Nigeria, said that PDP chose Anambra State as the first state to launch the exercise due to the forthcoming poll.
Obaseki, disclosed that PDP was still a mass movement unlike others that emerge as special purpose vehicle merely for elections, enjoined party leadership in the 326 electoral wards to mobilize the grassroots to achieve the purpose of the electronic registration. He said that e-registration was a great innovation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which would make it not only easier to identify party members but also make it hard to rig elections.
Also speaking, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, pointed out that he came to identify with the project to make Ozigbo win the forthcoming election, while recalling how PDP broke the jinx in his state and South West zone. Makinde urged party faithful not to be afraid or discouraged by antics of those whose plan was to rig the election, that the national leadership of the party PDP governors and other party faithful nationwide would be on ground to deliver the candidate of the party and celebrate the victory..
Contributing, the National Chairman of Valentine Ozigbo Governorship Campaign Council and governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, said the event was a determination of PDP to show Nigerians on the way to go. He enjoined Anambra voters to get ready to vote and protect their votes from the polling units to Collation centres until victory was assured. Ikpeazu called for massive turnout of youths during the e–registration exercise, stressing that their destinies were in their hands.
The Governorship candidate of PDP for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election, Ozigbo, expressed joy with the solidarity of the party and emphasized importance of the electronic registration. Ozigbo also called on eligible voters in the state to equally participate on the CVR in order to qualify to vote in the poll .
Also speaking, the Vice Presidential candidate of the party on 2019, Peter Obi, said the identification of PDP in the Anambra gubernatorial election was to add the state to the league of PDP Nigerian Governors Forum in a way to rebuild the country. Obi called on the citizens to identify with PDP and also participate in the election, adding that PDP was prepared to win the election.
Earlier, the Chairperson of PDP Anambra State 2021 Governorship campaign council, advised party faithful to leave their past behind and forge ahead by working in unity and harmony to deliver Anambra to PDP.
