ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Former governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo has been adopted as the governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Anambra state November 6 election.
Nwankpo emerged flag bearer of the party after affirmation votes supervised by Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and national officers of the party in Awka Anambra state on Wednesday.
Chairman of the ADC Anambra state committee on the governorship primary election ,Chief Anayo Arinze said that 7,351 delegate were accredited for election but that since they have only one candidate they have decided to go by affirmative votes .
Conducting the affirmation votes, he said “those who are in support of Nwankpo flagging the party’s ticket to raise up their hands and almost every delegate stood up and raised their hands in support ”
According to him , since it was all agreed that Nwakpo will be the party candidate ,”I hereby declare him duly elected candidate to fly our party’s ticket”
Responding ,the ADC candidate Nwankpo who was among the APGA aspirants disqualified by the party said that some people do not want his name to appear on the ballot paper but God has given him the opportunity
According to him, those people who denied him the opportunity because he has no money are not God . He said that God has given him the ticket and that he will transverse the state and win the forthcoming governorship election in the state. Nwankpo said that ADC was going to win the governorship seat in the state and change the rot in the system .
He also stated that he will prioritize the security situation in the state if elected the governor of the state and that he would make sure that his government runs a grassroots driven system to touch the lives of everybody .
Speaking earlier ,the National chairman of the party Chief Ralph Nwosu said that some days earlier ,the party had cleared the candidate and okayed him into ADC party with full right and privileges.
According to him, the party also cleared him to be the party flag bearer to drive it to victory . “We have confident that he will drive the ship of the state to the benefit of all the people ” he said.
