KADUNA, Nigeria – The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has ordered the closure of 13 schools in the state following the abduction of over 100 students from Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi town in Chukwun Loca Government Area.

In a statement, Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance  Authority(KSSQAA)  said the schools were shut in areas vulnerable to  attacks by bandits.

In  a statement to the proprietors of affected schools dated July 5, Director-General, KSSQAA, Mr.  Umma K. Ahmed said the closure was part of resolution  of meeting held following abductions at Bethel Baptist High School earlier in the day.

“Sequel to the information reaching the authority on the security threat at the Bethel Baptist High school, Damishi, a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private schools (NAPPS) and some key stakeholders was held on Monday 5th July, 2021 with the resolution that the following schools should closewith effect from Monday 5th July, 2021”, the statement said.

The  authority warned that there would be sanctions against  any school that fails to comply with the notice.

The affected schools include Faith Academy, along Kachia Road,  Deeper Life Academy, Ecwa Secondary school and Bethel Baptist High School, St. Peters Minor Seminary, Katari, Prelude Secondary School, Kujama, Ibiso Secondary school, Tashar Iche, Tulip International (Boys) School and Tulip international (Girls) School.

Others are  Goodnews Secondary School, St. Augustine, Kujama, Comprehensive Development Institution (CDI), Tudun Mare and Adventist College, Kujama.

“You are hereby advised to adhere to the contents of this letter as appropriate sanctions shall be meted out to schools that are found wanting for non-compliance, please,” the statement  warned.
