Anambra monarch hails NYSC over sanitation
Traditional Ruler of Neni in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Damain Ezeani has commended the National Youth Service Corp NYSC for initiating the national environmental sanitation exercises.

ANAMBRA, Onitsha, Nigeria – Traditional Ruler of Neni in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Damain Ezeani has commended the National Youth Service Corp   NYSC for initiating the national environmental sanitation exercises.

The monarch who spoke during the flag off of the NYSC national environmental sanitation exercise in Neni on Saturday, urged the corp members not to see the exercise a one day event.

According to him, the initiative was a commendable and welcome  development that must be taken seriously  not only by the corp members but by every  Nigerian.

The traditional ruler who expressed happiness over the initiative also called on the members of the scheme to carry aggressive campaigns to the  people and  educate them  on the need to keep their environment clean .

“We need more of education on the need to clean up our  environment . If you clean the environment today by tomorrow they will dump the waste indiscriminately again. I think ,as you are  cleaning the  area ,please talk to the people on why they should  keep their  places clean. Always come back to talk to the people and clean up the area.

This exercise should be a continuous event  just like the campaign against dirty environment should be intensified in our various communities ”   he said.

In addressed an presented by the Director General of NYSC Brig. General Shaibu Ibrahim and  read by the state coordinator Mrs. Yetunde Baberinwa, he    said the exercise would be a continuous thing  to ensure that people have a clean environment.

He said to achieve a clean environment in the country members of various  communities need to be moblised  to come out and actively participate in the programme, hence the initiative.

According to him, the moblisation will include sensitization programme ,disease surveillance and reporting of any outbreak anywhere .

The DG said that the sensitization exercise by the scheme will feature regular environmental sanitation on forth night basis ,clean disposal of food and water intake , proper disposal of human and animal wastes.

He also said that the exercise will include protection of food and water from contamination and good grooming on regular basis.

The DG called on the people to actively engage in community policing to enforce clean environment and proper waste disposal for their healthy living.

Speaking also on the flag off programme, chairman of Aniocha local government area of Anambra state , Hon. Patrick Onyedo commended the corp members for the wonderful work of cleaning the local government.

The chairman represented by the councilor representing Neni ward 1 Hon. Igwemadu Chikwado said the initiative was very commendable and the council will support it with all available resources.

According to him, it is known that cleanness is next to Godliness and it is poised to support the programme and urged the public to embrace the initiative.

He said the council is making move to acquire dumping bins to enable the people to properly dispose their wastes.

According to him, when the bins  are acquired it  will embark on sanitation campaign so that the  people will be disposing their waste properly. He also said that the council has keyed into the monthly clean up exercise in the state aimed at cleaning the state for healthy living.

The chairman stated the the council has a good relation with the corp members in the area, noting that they make sure they have accommodation and others needed to stay in the area.

Highlight of the exercise include the cutting of  the Neni community town  Hall environment, clearing and sweeping  of  markets and other  places in the community.
