ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Ahead of Saturday All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election to elect it’s governorship candidate for Anambra state Gubernatorial election ,the former Senior Special Assistant to president Olusegun Obasanjo on Domestic Affairs Senator Andy Uba has described those accusing him of importing thugs from neighboring states to destabilise the party primary election as enemies of the state.
Uba who spoke to our reporter through his media aide, Mrs. Onyekachi Okafor said that the news of Uba importing thugs from neighbouring state to vote him was the height of mischief targeted at rubbishing his reputation built over the years .
Uba said that there is no reason for him to import thugs for the election ,having been a senator and governor of the state . According to him, he is more passionate about the state more than most of those aspiring to govern the state.
He said the only thing he is asking for is for God is to give him the grace to touch more lives in the state and the nation and not wealth.
” I’ am into the race to touch more lives and not to make money . I have enough to take me and my children for life ” he said.
According to Uba , it is the height of ignominy for any person or group of persons to associate him with thugs and other unethical practices in political process .
” I’am into politics to touch lives and bring development to Anambra state . God has blessed me beyond imagination and I am grateful to Him ” he said .
A group known as Igbo Ohaneze integrity groups had written a petition to governor Willie Obiano and copied to Director of Security Department ,Anambra State Commissioner for Police ,Commandant ,Nigerian Army Cantonment ,Onitsha and other security operatives alleging that the senator had imported some thugs to influence the out of the APC primary on Saturday .
The group at the APC ongoing stakeholders in a statement distributed said that one of the patriotic youths leader at the meeting where Uba was disclosed to have imported thugs told them about the development.
A statement signed by Emejulu Okpalaezeukeu on behalf of the group said that the security agency should invite the former senator for questioning and that they are ready to provide further evidence.
The group also urged the traditional rulers and youths to comb the communities and arrest none indigenes who had come in to vote for Andy Uba.
The group urged the security agency to work with appropriate APC executive to identify true members of the party for the election. Meanwhile APC national and state executive are still in a meeting to strategise on how to conduct the party primary election on Saturday.
