ONITSHA, Anambra – Anambra state vigilante services has expressed readiness to protect Onitsha main market from attack. Chairman of Anambra North vigilante Services , Chief Chinenye Ihenko gave the assurance while addressing traders of Onitsha Main Market and its environs.
There was rumour that some unidentified people are planning to bomb Onitsha main market. He said that there is no person that can bomb Onitsha main market, saying that his men are on ground and battle ready to confront any attacker on the market.
“Our mission this afternoon is to intimate you people about rumours making the rounds on social media that Onitsha Main Market would be bomb through River Niger. I tell you, let everybody continue doing his or her normal business without fear of anything. We are ready to confront any person who will attempt to bomb this market.
“Do your business with confident, nothing is going to happen, we are ever ready for any circumstances. We are ready because one with God is in majority. Please, do your normal business” he assured.
Speaking on occasion , the former Chairman of Onitsha Main Market, Chief Samuel Uzor who confirmed that he heard the rumours of bombing the Onitsha Main Market through River Niger, advised members not to ignore the rumour .
According to him, such rumours cannot be underestimated. ” We will take all necessary action to make sure that Onitsha Main Market is adequately secured and protected . I trust our vigilantes led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko. They are capable to repel any attack directed at the main market ” he said .
Uzor also called on the state government to beef security in the state with more personnel, especially in those area with high insecurity threat. He also advised the traders to keep calm and be vigilante
