IKARE, Ondo, Nigeria – The newly installed Owa Ale of Ikareland, HRM Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite-Adedoyin has assured the NYSC management that the Palace will give adequate protection to the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

The royal father gave the assurance when the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani paid courtesy call on the Palace. The monarch, the 18th Owa Ale of Ikareland who ascended the throne of his forefathers in February this year said that NYSC has become beacon of hope to Nigeria as an entity and as such, the Scheme’s legacies should be sustained by the traditional institutions.

Oba Adeleke Adegbite-Adedoyin while praising the effort of the founding fathers of the Scheme posited that it has achieved more unity for the country than other institutions one can think of. The King who is a Barrister at Law just like his father who was the immediate Owa Ale of Ikareland said the relationship between the Palace and the NYSC which blossomed during the reign of his late father will remain priority of his kingdom.

The prominent ruler wanted corps members to embrace Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the NYSC which according to him would brighten their future.

“Let me advise the Gentlemen corps members under your motherly care and supervision, I need to tell them the bitter truth about life. They need to create jobs for themselves and become employers of labour. It is better to be an employer than to remain an employee”.

“I am a good farmer but they can always make headway in any skills or vocations they may want to embrace. The NYSC as a training ground is not relenting in preparing them to face the task ahead without the fear of the unknown and it would be better for the members of the service corps to take advantage of the structures put in place by the Scheme to become personalities of their dream” he said.

The latest traditional ruler in Akoko Division who recently received staff of office from the Executive Governor of the Sunshine State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) disclosed that his people are very hospitable and peace loving. The new Owa Ale promised to interface between his community and NYSC whenever there is need to do so.

The former Civil Servant in the employment of Ondo State Government who received the insignia of authority from the Deputy Governor, Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa who represented Akeredolu at a very colourful ceremony attended by well over 100 traditional rulers and prominent personalities from all walks of life heaped royal blessings on the State Coordinator and wish her success in the new portfolio and equally prayed for the corps members serving nationwide that they shall remain shinning lights to the nation.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani who attended the presentation of staff of office ceremony congratulated the royal father for ascending the throne of his forefathers and prayed that his reign will be more peaceful than that of his forebears.

Mrs. Ani said that she was in the palace to pay homage as the new Coordinator in the Sunshine State and to seek the royal blessings from the monarch in order to succeed like her predecessors.

The State Coordinator implored the royal father to encourage prominent sons and daughters of his kingdom to come and invest at the orientation camp.

“Your Majesty, NYSC Ondo State Permanent Orientation Camp is one of the oldest camps in the country and it would not be out of the way if you as our father can make clarion call to established personalities in your domain to come over to the camp and assist us”.

She said that NYSC will continue to rely on the wise counsel of our royal fathers to lead the Scheme in the right direction and their support so that the objectives can be expressly achieved. The State Coordinator on behalf of the Director General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the NYSC family and the members of the service corps nationwide appreciated the monarch for the honour done to the Scheme as the first corporate institution to visit the palace after the conclusion of the mandatory traditional rites.
