ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has donated food items worth millions of Naira to over 300 less privileged persons in Awka Anambra state capital.
The food items include several tubers of yam , bags of rice ,cartoons of indomie noodles and others. The Catholic bishop who made donation on Easter Saturday ,at the St. Patrick Catholic Cathedral Awka said the donation was to cushion the affect of hardship these less privileged people are passing through in Nigeria .
According to the Ezeokafor , the situation in the country required that the less privileged be shown love. He said that whatever the church is giving ,it is giving to compliment and assist them to have something to eat in their various homes .
Bishop Ezeokafor said beneficiaries of the donation cut across churches and religion , saying that most of those who received the gifts are not just Catholics and Christians .
“During this kind of period, like COVID-19 and hardship in the land , the poor are the ones that suffer most and we must do something to help them. We should think on how to help our fellow human being who are challenged, especially during this Easter period . They need to eat in order to live. We give out to the people for the love of God. I think giving to these less privileged is one of the best way to celebrate Easter festival ” he said .
He called on government and the well to do individuals in the society to always remember the less privileged in their lives. Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our reporter thanked Bishop Ezeokafor for remembering them and prayed for God’s blessing upon his life .
Mrs Uche Ifejika, one of the woman that is physically challenged said that ,she was in Lagos doing business until she developed serious leg problem and came back to Anambra state .She said that this is her second years of collecting the food items from the Bishop ,since she came from Lagos .
Another beneficiary, Mr .Okereke Simon who is on wheelchair said that God used the Bishop to remember people like him .According to him, the items he collect will serve him for a very long time .
