LAGOS, Nigeria – Fast-rising Nigerian artiste, Mukhtar Oladapo Sarumi, professionally known as Mukhy, debuts with a genre-rich mixtape ‘Posh Nation’. Mukhy quit his regular job to pursue his passion for music and has since proven himself to be fiercely versatile, delivering stimulating  works across a range of genres in this tasteful and original body of work.

Posh Nation begins with a metaphorical piece, ‘Toxic Love’. Produced by Eem Triplin, this sultry masterpiece explores the challenges of mental health though it is cleverly disguised as a classic love song with its smooth and somber delivery.

The Gidi Gang Music artistes Mukhy and Glitch collaborate on 4 songs including the feel-good anthem ‘My Race’.  This track speaks to Mukhy’s desire to forge his own path come rain or thunder and listeners can’t help but feel motivated. The duo has also worked together on ‘Afrogirl’ and ‘Julie’ which are an ode to a special love interest which he can’t seem to live without.

‘Shawty’ takes a different approach, delivering an upbeat, groovy, and playful record reminiscent of jovial works by Outkast and Brockhampton. The ease with which Mukhy transitions to this genre is testimony to his versatility. ‘I’m On’ freestyle featuring Glitch and Namatsey is a perfect continuation of the energy in ‘Shawty’. Though the song takes a moody approach, his confidence is unwavering as he issues a warning to enemies of Posh Nation.

‘Posh Nation’ is given a fine finish with lyrically sound ‘Pressure’, ‘I H8 U’ featuring soulful vocals from the ever-impressive fellow label-mate, 2Mak, and ‘Emotions’. These three Afro-infused Hip-Hop tracks bring a close to the album, leaving listeners in awe of Mukhy’s musical gravitas.

Mukhy’s ‘Posh Nation’ has a range of producers including the ever-prolific Ransom Beats, Prodby106, and international producers such as Stoic, Damien Alter, Pale1080, Jaemally Beatz, and Pilotkid deliver opulent musical excellence with a pinch of African rhythm. What a way to make a debut!

Speaking on how ‘Posh Nation’ came to life, Mukhy enthused: “The last year has been tough on everyone due to a combination of deflating events. It has been a big change for me, from feeling super terrible to doing what I love – creating music. That said, my mind has always been a weird place so I’ve chosen to put it in music. It sometimes comes across as the happy-sad kid which isn’t totally bad as it helped me put together this project.”

The  25-year-old Osun State indigene finished with a first-class in Chemical Engineering from the University College of London, and a distinction from Imperial College for Masters. He is also in the final stages of acquiring his CFA qualification leaving us wondering whether there is anything Mukhy does not excel at!

‘Posh Nation’ is out today, March 18th, 2021 across all music platforms. Enjoy the range of sounds!.
