ONITSHA, Nigeria – The Anambra State police command has discovered a baby factory in Nnewi where four pregnant young girls  are awaiting delivery. The baby  factory where the four girls were   discovered   is  being  operated as  a brothel and bar.

The baby factory known as Cool Joint bar Nnewi  is owned by one Mrs . Gladys Nworie Ikegwuonu who is presently at large. Confirming the incident ,the Command’s  Police Public Relations officer, CSP Haruna Mohammed  said one Mrs Gladys Nworie Ikegwuonu operates the joint as a bar whereas it is a  baby factory.

He gave the names of the four rescued  pregnant young girls as   Chisom Okoye, 20 years, of Mgbaneze Isu, Onicha LGA,. Ebonyi State, Chinecherem Clement, 18 years, of Agbaebo Isu of Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State, Blessing Ogbonna, ‘ 21 years, of Nkwagu Isu of Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State and Blessing Njoku, 21 years, of Mgbaneze Isu of Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State, all residing at Cool Joint bar Nnewi.

According to Mohammed, it would  be recalled that on 11/3/2021, there was a report at the Area Command Headquarters, Nnewi, that a four year old child of St Joseph’s School, Otolo Nnewi, was returning home from School in company of his siblings when two men on a motorcycle grabbed him and zoomed off.

However, the child was rescued by some commercial motorcyclists who pursued and eventually arrested the suspects at Akamili Community, Nnewi. According to police  spokesperson,  preliminary investigations  revealed that  the suspects beaten to stupor by angry mob were sent by same  Gladys Nworie Ikegwuonu. He added that one of the suspects died following the mob action.

He said that the suspect supplies the young girls to the joint and gets  men to impregnate them. “The  girls  are driven away after safe delivery and the babies sold”, he said.

He added that two suspects have been  arrested  in connection  with the incident. He gave their names as Abuchi Ani aged 32 years, of Ohazora, Ebonyi State, and Emeka Ikegwuonu 49 years, of Akabukwu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

He also said  that the Command is intensifying efforts to arrest the principal suspect, Gladys Nworie Ikegwuonu of Ohaozora, Ebonyi State, in order to bring her and other accomplices  to Justice.
