IKARE-AKOKO, Ondo, Nigeria – The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) has charged members of the service corps to make sacrifice and give selfless service to the nation. Arakunrin Akeredolu made the charge when he declared close the 2021 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) orientation course at Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
The Governor who was competently represented by the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani said that the three weeks orientation course has prepared them well ahead of the challenges they might face in the course of their service year.
According to the Governor, the three weeks induction is primarily meant to equip the corps members to have a better understanding of the operations of the Scheme and to toughen and prepare them physically and mentally to function optimally in their new found environment.
“The NYSC, in its struggle to ensure national development and cohesion, has instilled the value of patriotism, integrity, hard work, unity amongst you the corps members during the orientation exercise. In addition, values that will always come handy during and after your service year have been entrenched in the orientation course contents”.
“I charge you to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Ondo, the Sunshine State. Endeavour to put in your very best and contribute productively in whatever sector of the economy you might be posted. Your predecessors made a sacrifice that has endeared the Scheme in the hearts of all and sundry and I hope you will not disappoint the citizens of this country who have implicit trust in your capabilities to serve the nation relentlessly”.
On the COVID -19 that is ravaging the global space, the first citizen of the Sunshine State appealed to the corps members not to lower their guard but to do everything humanly possible to flatten the curve.
“Reports reaching me from the management of NYSC indicated that your observance of COVID -19 protocols is encouraging and I want you to sustain the tempo as you prepare for the second phase of the cardinal programme of NYSC Scheme. You are aware that the statistics is decreasing and I want to plead with you to make sacrifice that will flatten the curve of the novel Coronavirus pandemic”.
He admonished them to impact positively on their host communities and transfer the knowledge acquired during the Skill acquisition training to better their lots so as to stem the tide of unemployment in the society.
Arakunrin Akeredolu acknowledged the immense and invaluable contributions of the management of NYSC and all stakeholders and heartily commended their efforts towards ensuring that the corps members were properly groomed and well monitored during the orientation course.
