UTURU, Abia, Nigeria – Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu (GUU), Prof Gregory Ibe has urged Students of higher institutions in Nigeria to prioritize the acquisition of additional entrepreneurial skills while undertaking their academic programmes.
Prof. Ibe gave the advice while speaking at the 9th matriculation ceremony of the university held at the University main auditorium . According to Prof Ibe, human capital development especially among youths, remains the fastest way of industrializing the nation through the establishment of many small and medium scale enterprises.
The university don narrated how he developed a dogged spirit of enterprise by learning many trades including, carpentry, masonry, surveying and construction while still in school, stressing that the skills he acquired enabled him lay a solid financial foundation for his life.
He challenged the new students to toe the path of excellence and diligence. He also enjoined the matriculating students to eschew all forms of deviancy while upholding the tenets of sound morality throughout their tenure in the institution, as a way of anchoring their future on strong spiritual pillars.
Highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic administration of matriculation oath on a record number of 326 fresh students, admitted into the institution in the 2020/2021 academic session.
The occasion attracted many high profile personalities, including a former Deputy Governor of Imo State ,Lady Ada Okwuonu and Deputy Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai among others.
