ONITSHA, Nigeria – Medical Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku -Awka, Anambra state has appealed to the state governor Chief Willie Obiano to appoint Chief  Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital from members of MDCAN.

This appealed was contained in a  speech delivered by the chairman of MDCAN-COUTH  Dr. Chukwudi Okani during  2020 annual general meeting and award giving ceremony of the association on Thursday in Awka.

Okani said ,the consultants are better   positioned to take  the hospital to greater height because it has all it takes to do so.

” We wish to appeal to His Excellency  Chief Willie Obiano to give us the chance to elect CMD from a team of Medical Consultants at COOUTH Awka, who have what  it takes to pilot  the affairs of teaching Hospital.

“In the next appointment of CMD, the hospital management as a body functioning as eyes and ears of the State  chief executive should be allowed to perform their statutory functions by making recommendations to HE on who become the next CMD” he said.

He also appealed  to Obiano to prioritize the welfare of the MDCAN members in the hospital for greater Productivity.

Okani  urged  the governor to implement the 100 percent emoluments promised last year instead of the current 70 percent payment they are receiving in the institution. According to him, the internally  generated revenue IGR of hospital has improved and  the emoluments could be achieved through the money from the hospital IGR without much from the government.

” The efforts of HE  has started yielding the desired dividends at COOUTH- Amaku Awka. The IGR has drastically improved. We , therefore, appeal to HE for his  blessings so that our emoluments, which is currently at 70percent is upgraded  to 100 percent as  we were promised  one year ago. The upgrading can be achieved with the IGR sir” he said.
