ABUJA, Nigeria – The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami has approved extension in the deadline of the ongoing NIN-SIM integration for a period of three weeks.
The deadline was shifted from 30th December 2020 to January 19th, 2021 for subscribers with the National Identification Number(NIN) on one hand and six weeks, 30th December, 2020 to 19th February, 2021 for subscribers without NIN.
This approval was conveyed after review of all related activities by the Presidential Task Force on the Integration of the National Identification Number and Subscriber Information Module(SIM), chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami and had in attendance executive stakeholders in the sector, including Director General, National Identify Management Commission, NIMC, Dr. Aliu Aziz, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, DG, National Information Technology and Development Agency(NITDA), Inuwa Kashifu Abdullahi, Chairman, ALTON, CEOs of Glo, Airtel, 9mobile and Smile, the NIMC said in a statement by Kayode Adegoke, Head Corporate Communications.
He added that during the meeting, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami and other stakeholders resolved to suspend all USSD and verification charges for the duration of the extension to enable all Nigerians and legal residents to integrate their SIM cards with the NIN without any financial obstacle.
The NIMC assured Nigerians that adequate measures are being put in place to enable citizens and legal residents to enroll and be given the NIN.
The NIMC also enjoyed residents to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols at the NIMC enrolment centres nationwide.
