ABIA, Nigeria – Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu,Abia state, Prof Gregory Ibe has donated 408 pairs of branded completed jerseys with hose to the state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
The donation was in fulfillment of his promise to dress the first edition of Abia State Under 21 Female Inter Local Government Football competition being organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in conjunction with the ministries of Women Affairs and Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs in the state.
According to a statement issued by Media and Public Relations Officer of the institution ,Mr Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo ,Prof.Ibe delivered a total of 408 branded jerseys with hose to the organisers of the competition.
Handing over the jerseys to the Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu, Prof. Ibe represented by the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Augustine Uwakwe stated that the donation was in fulfillment of the promise he made to kit the participants at the sports meet.
Ibe also described sports as a critical instrument for national building and cohesion and promised to do everything within his reach to contribute meaningfully to the sports development in the state and beyond.
He commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for his commitment towards youths development through his support for the first edition of the Under 21 Female Inter local Government Football Competition.
He promised to sustain the partnership with the state government at different levels towards lifting the youths of the state and country to greater heights and becoming responsible citizens.
Ibe also called on Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development not to relent on initiating proactive activities that would not only engage Abia youths development but also empower them to become better citizens.
Speaking while receiving the donations, Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports development, Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu appreciated Prof. Gregory Ibe for his magnanimity and love for youths development in the state.
According to the Commissioner, he was encouraged by the magnanimity of Prof Ibe to propose the organisation of a special sports fiesta specifically for tertiary institutions in the state, using the modern sporting facilities available in Gregory University Uturu.
Recall that Prof Ibe had earlier offered to kit all the teams from the 17 local Government Areas participating at the Under 21 Inter Local Government Female Football Competition in the state.
