ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – A youth group, Oyi Youth Initiative on Friday staged a peaceful protest demanding account of stewardship from Mrs. Vivian Okadigbo, ex-lawmaker who represented Oyi Constituency at the Anambra House of Assembly for eight years.
The group, who staged their protest from Awkuzu junction along the Enugu – Onitsha expressway to Oyi Local Government at Nteje, carried placards with various inscriptions.
The ex-lawmaker is married to the younger brother of former President of the Senate, Dr Chuba Okadigbo. Spokesman of the group, Mr Ike Ndubuisi said the protest was aimed at making politicians, especially current and former Assembly members, accountable.
Ndubuisi said they could no longer pretend that all was well when they have not recorded any quality representation from the said former lawmaker.
He claimed that Okadigbo could not boast of any single project she attracted to the Constituency for eight years.
“It is really appalling and embarrassing that such a woman, who is supposed to be a mother came and wasted our time, took all our constituency allocations, and abandoned the people she is supposed to represent.
“This is unacceptable because the expectations of our people were completely dashed. In all of this, the good people of Oyi Constituency gave Mrs Okadigbo two complete tenures and there is nothing to show for it,” Ndubuisi said.
He said their demand was a refund of the constituency funds to enable the constituent execute the projects.
According to him, failure to do so within the next 30 days will result in taking the matter to the Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ICPC.
Mr Tochukwu Onuorah added that youths are given priority attention in the area of human capital development, but such did not happen in the constituency under Okadigbo.
The group commended Gov. Willie Obiano for all the developmental strides in the area, saying that the governor was the only one who remembers them in terms of development.

Reacting however in a phone interview, Okadigbo said that the protest was organised by unknown sponsors to dent her person.
“I am now based in Lagos but they should have done their protest earlier. I am not a house member anymore. Anyone who spent four years and later completed another four show did well.
“I have given them account so many times of what I did. As a matter of fact, I am the only honourable member who served my constituent and attracted developments,” she said.
