ABIA, Nigeria- The founder and chief executive officer of Gregory University Uturu GUU, Abia state, Prof Gregory Ibe has extended his generosity to Abia State University, Uturu and Abia polytechnic, Aba by donating food items to the institutions.
Prof Ibe, a philanthropist, with a heart of gold for helping the needy in the society has over the years been in the forefront of putting similes on the faces of less privileged in the society. This gesture is continuation of Prof. Gregory Ibe Foundation (PGIF) COVID-19 Palliative Distribution Exercise.
Essential food items comprising rice, beans and noodles were donated to members of Abia University Uturu (ABSU)chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and staff of Abia State Polytechnic Aba.
Speaking while handing over the palliatives to the executive members of ABSU ASUU, the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu,Prof Augustine Uwakwe, conveyed the empathy of Prof Ibe on the plight of the citizenry occasioned by the global pandemic
While appreciating the inability of the exercise to meet the entire food needs of the people, Uwakwe noted that “Prof Ibe was motivated to launch the innovation out of love and care for the citizenry, as a way of expressing his concern for the well being of Abians especially during these trying times”.
Recalling the fraternal relationship existing between ABSU and GUU, Prof Uwakwe contended that the donation will help strengthen the mutual friendship between the institutions . Responding, Chairman of ABSU ASSU, Dr. V. C. Nkemdirim thanked Prof. Ibe for his kind disposition and gestures, describing it as a true reflection of the Igbo belief in the concept of ‘O nuru ube nwanne ya agbala oso’.
While the Rector of Abia State Polytechnic Aba, Prof Ezionye Eboh thanked God that for making Prof Ibe to alleviate the suffering of Abians occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also called on other well meaning individuals in the state to emulate the gesture of Prof Ibe.
Recalled that in the previous editions, Prof Gregory Ibe Foundation had distributed items to state governments, local government councils, groups, institutions and associations within and outside the state.
