Coronavirus: 457 new in Nigeria as global death toll surpass 700,000; see cases in top 12 countries

United Kingdom records 2 cases of Coronavirus in 24 hours
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 457 new cases of Coronavirus, making a total of 44, 890 confirmed cases in Nigeria.

LAGOS, Nigeria -The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 457 new cases of Coronavirus, making a total of 44, 890 confirmed cases in Nigeria.

Out of the 44,890 confirmed cases,  32,165 patients have been discharged from the various isolation centres, while  927 others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 11, 798 active cases of the virus.

Breakdown of the new cases is as follows – Lagos-137,  Abuja-76,  Plateau-40,  Rivers-35,  Enugu-34, Oyo-25, Abia-23, Delta-12,  Edo-11,  Ebonyi-11,  Cross River-10 Kwara-10,  Kaduna-9, Anambra-7,  Ogun-5,  Imo-3, Bauchi-3, Osun-2,  Nasarawa-2,  Kano-1 and Ekiti-1, making a total of  457 new cases of the virus.

Meanwhile death toll for Coronavirus worldwide has crossed the 700,000 mark, the Centre for System Science Engineering has reported. According to the centre based in Maryland, the United States, there are currently 18,643, 633 confirmed cases worldwide, 703, 127 deaths, while 11, 206, 409 others have recovered.

The Centre revealed that the United States still leads in the ranks of most affected countries, reporting 4, 811, 128 cases, 157, 690 deaths, while 1, 528, 979 others have recovered, leaving the U.S with  3, 124, 459 active cases of the pandemic(59, 275 new cases), followed by Brazil, which has reported 2, 801, 921 confirmed cases, 95, 819 deaths,  while 2, 157, 553 others have recovered, leaving Brazil with 548, 549 active cases of the virus(51,603 new cases).

India is next, reporting 1, 908, 254 confirmed cases,  39,795 deaths, while 1, 282, 215 others have been discharged, leaving India with 586, 244 active cases(52, 509 new cases), followed by Russia which has documented 864, 948 cases, 14, 465 deaths, while 667, 769 others have recovered, leaving Russia with 182, 714 active cases of the pandemic, followed by  South Africa which has documented  529, 877 cases, 9,298 deaths, while 377, 266 others have recovered, leaving South Africa with 143, 313 active cases of the virus(8, 559 new cases), followed by Mexico with 449, 961 confirmed cases, 48, 869 deaths, while 357, 444 others have been discharged, leaving Mexico with 43, 648 active cases of the pandemic.

Peru  also in South America has reported 439, 890 cases, 20,007 deaths, while 302, 457 patients have been discharged, leaving Peru with 117, 426 active cases, followed by Chile with 364, 723 confirmed cases,  9, 792 deaths,  while 338,291 others have recovered, leaving Chile with 16, 640 active cases of Coronavirus, followed by  Colombia which has documented 334, 979 confirmed cases, 11, 315 deaths, while 180, 258 others have been discharged, leaving Colombia with 143, 406 active cases of the pandemic, followed by  Iran which has reported  317, 483 confirmed cases, 17, 802 deaths, while 274,  932 patients have recovered, leaving Iran with 24,749 active cases of the pandemic.

The United Kingdom has been pushed into the 11th spot in the ranks of most affected countries, reporting 307, 258 cases, 46, 295 deaths, while only 1, 445 patients have recovered since the onset of the virus, leaving the U.K with 259, 518 active cases of the virus(2 new cases in the last 24 hours, no death) followed by Spain in the 12th spot with 305, 767 confirmed cases,  28, 499 deaths, while 150, 376 patients have been discharged, leaving Spain with 126, 892 active cases of the pandemic(2, 953 new cases and 1 death in the last 24 hours), followed by  Italy in the 15th spot in the rank of most afflicted countries.

 Italy has documented 248, 803 cases,  35, 181 deaths, while 200, 976 patients have recovered, leaving Italy with 12, 646 active cases of the virus(384 cases, 10 deaths in the last 24 hours) and then China with 88, 291 cases, 4, 677 deaths, while 81, 407 others have been discharged, leaving China with 2, 207 active cases of the pandemic(112 new cases, 2 deaths in the last 24 hours).
