Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta made the revelation when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Communication for screening following his reappointment for another term of 5 years by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Danbatta  told the Senate committee that over 20 million Nigerians have activated the NCC Do-Not-Disturb (DND) 2442 Short Code and assured that consumer protection is top priority of the Regulatory Commission.

Two of such consumer centric interventions include the 622 Toll-Free Number for escalating unresolved complaints or complaints that were not satisfactorily resolved by service providers and the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) 2442 Short Code to manage the challenges with unsolicited text messages.

The Nigerian Communications Commission is the independent National Regulatory Authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria. The Commission is responsible for creating an enabling environment for competition among operators in the industry as well as ensuring the provision of qualitative and efficient telecommunications services throughout the country.
