LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)  has confirmed 555 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number to 40,532 cases.

Out of the 40, 532 confirmed cases, 17, 374 Nigerians have been discharged, while 858 others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 22, 300 active cases of the pandemic.

Breakdown of the new cases is as follows, Lagos-156,  Kano-65, Ogun-57, Plateau-54, Oyo-53,  Benue-43,  Abuja-30, Ondo-18, Kaduna-16, Akwa Ibom-13, Gombe-13, Rivers-12, Ekiti-9, Osun-8, Cross River-3, Borno-2, Edo-2 and Bayelsa-1, the NCDC said of the 555 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Coronavirus cases have cross 16 million worldwide. There are currently 16,151,790 confirmed cases, 646, 996 deaths, while 9, 303, 358 others have recovered, Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland has said.

According to the centre, the United States remains the most afflicted worldwide, reporting 4, 222, 841 confirmed cases, 146,788 deaths, while 1,279,414 Americans have been discharged.

The U.S now has 2, 796, 639 active cases, followed by Brazil which has documented 2, 394, 513 cases, 86, 449 deaths, while 1, 785, 359 Brazilians have been discharged, leaving Brazil with 522,705 active cases, followed by India, the third most affected country globally.

India has documented 1, 385,  685 cases, 32, 063 deaths, while 885,577 others have recovered, leaving India with 468,045 active cases, followed by Russia with 811, 073 cases, 13, 249 deaths, while 599, 172 Russians have recovered, leaving Russia with 198, 652 active cases of the Coronavirus.

South Africa is next with 445,433 confirmed cases, 6, 769 deaths, while 265,077 South Africans have been discharged. South Africa is left with 173, 587 active cases, followed by Mexico with 390, 516 confirmed cases, 43, 680 deaths, while 293, 264 Mexicans have recovered, leaving Mexico with 53, 572 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Peru, which has documented 375, 961 cases,  17, 843 deaths, while 263, 130 others have been discharged, leaving Peru with 94, 988 active cases of the virus.

Chile is next with 345,790 confirmed cases of Coronavirus,  9, 112 deaths, while 318,095 others have recovered, leaving Chile with 18, 583 active cases of the pandemic, followed by the United Kingdom with 301, 020 cases, 45, 837 deaths, while only 1, 434  residents have been discharged, leaving the U.K with 253, 749 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Iran in the  10th spot in the league of most affected countries.

 Iran has reported 291, 172 confirmed cases, 15,700 deaths, while 253, 213 Iranians have recovered, leaving Iran with 22, 259 active cases of the virus and China where the pandemic was first reported.

China(26th in the league of most affected nations) has documented 86, 637 confirmed cases, 4, 652 deaths, while 80, 449 others have recovered, leaving the state with 1,536 active cases of Coronavirus.
