Court okays release of Jehovah’s witness in Russia

KURSK, Russia – The Lgovskiy District Court in the Kursk Region on Wednesday converted the remaining part of Brother Dennis Christensen  sentence to fine in the process speeding up his release. Christensen is one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The judge, at the request of the prosecution converted the remaining years of Bro. Dennis Christensen sentence to a fine of 4,000,000 rubles, about USD 5,759.

The decision takes effect in 10 days time during which Bro. Dennis Christensen will go home to join his wife, family and fellow worshippers.

“On June 23, 2020, the Lgovskiy District Court in the Kursk Region granted Brother Dennis Christensen early release. At the prosecution’s request, the judge mitigated the remainder of Brother Christensen’s sentence to a fine of 400,000 rubles ($5,759 U.S.).

“The decision will take effect in ten days, after which he will be able to go home to his wife, family, and fellow worshipers. All praise goes to Jehovah!”, jw.org reported.

In May, a three-judge panel of the Oryol Regional Court denied Dennis Christensen’s appeal and upheld the six-year prison sentence he previously received

In February, 2019, the Oryol District Court sentenced Dennis Christensen to six years imprisonment for possession of Christian publication alleged to be extremist materials.

 Dennis Christensen, a Danish citizen was arrested during a meeting in one of the Kingdom Halls in Russia and has been in detention.

The court pronounced him guilty as charged.
