LAGOS, Nigeria -The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 490 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 17,148.

But out of the 17, 148 confirmed cases  in Nigeria, 5, 623 patients have recovered and were discharged, while  455 others have passed on.

However, a breakdown of the 490 new cases showed that 142 cases were found in Lagos, 60 in Abuja, 54 in Bayelsa, 39 in Rivers, 37 in Delta, 30 in Oyo, 26 in Kaduna, 23 in Imo, 19 in Enugu, 17 in Kwara, 11 in Gombe,  10 in Ondo, 8 in Bauchi, 7 in Ogun, 6 in Borno and 1 in Benue State.

Worldwide, there are currently 8,144, 842 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, while 440, 558 patients have passed on based on new figures released by the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, Maryland.

According to the centre, the United States is still very far ahead of the most affected countries in the world, reporting 2, 134, 521 confirmed cases of the pandemic, while 116, 843 others could not make it alive, followed by Brazil, which has documented 923, 189 confirmed cases with 45, 241 deaths.

In fact Brazil experienced a spike  by 55, 565 new cases and 1,909 deaths in the last 24 hours, the centre said of Coronavirus in Brazil.

Next is Russia, which has reported 544, 725 confirmed cases of the pandemic, while 7, 274 patients have died.  India, which has documented 343,091 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, with 9, 900 deaths, followed by the United Kingdom, which has confirmed 299, 594 cases of the pandemic, while 42,054 patients have kicked the bucket.

Spain is next with 244, 328 cases with 27, 136 deaths, followed by Italy which has recorded 237, 500 cases with 34, 405 deaths and then China, where the pandemic was first reported.

China has documented 84, 378 cases of Coronavirus, 4, 638 deaths, while 79, 491 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged, leaving China with 249 cases, up by 31 new cases in the last 24 hours.
