ONITSHA, Nigeria -As Anambra state civil servants resumed work on Monday, a business and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) ,Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo has charged the Anambra state governor chief Willie Obiano to ensure that civil servants welfare are given the highest priority in line with global standards.
Johnbosco in a statement made available to journalists in Onitsha , Anambra State on Monday said it was absolutely necessary for the state government to pay adequate attention to the welfare of workers as they resume work after lockdown as a results of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, Anambra state workers must be protected from the deadly Coronavirus pandemic at all cost. Onunkwo said, Anambra state workers should not be exposed to the risk of contracting the Coronavirus as results of government inability to provide protective measures.
“As civil servants in the state resume duties on Monday, the Willie Obiano administration must be commited to the twin tasks of ensuring and enhancing the welfare of workers.
“This is because the life of the Anambra State workers are priceless and we cannot afford to lose them due to any form of omission on the part of the government” he said.
He also implore the State Government to ensure that the state secretariat and other government offices including public schools across the state are thoroughly decontaminated before workers resume in such offices so as to guarantee a safe of working environment for our civil servants.
“It is equally imperative to make sure that hand washing and sanitizing machines are provided at various government offices and schools, with a ‘No face mask, No entry’ policy instituted” he stated.
He also advised the State Government to follow the gradual easing template of the Federal Government by allowing government offices to open only three times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and close by 2pm each day as we continue to monitor this health emergency” he stated.
