BAUCHI, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Bala Mohammed who has been on self isolation since he shook hands with son of former Vice President, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar has tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor went into self isolation and members of his entourage after shaking hands with Mo Atiku aboard the aircraft Air Contractors in Lagos and his blood samples taken for clinical examination.

But in statement, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Mukhtar Gidado said the test showed the governor to be carrier of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is to inform the general public that the reslt of the six initial tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID-19.
The positive result happened to be that of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State.
“At this point, it should noted that the governor is in self isolation as his doctors and officials of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control have taken full charge of his quarantine.
“His Excellency solicit for prayers from and requests that all those who had contact with him or anyone known to have the same medical condition to go for test immediately, in order to avoid further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic”, Muhktar Gidado said in the statement.
In an earlier statement, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Mukhtar Gidado had explained that the governor went into self isolation following reports from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, that son of the former Vice President, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar has tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic upon his return from international trip via Lagos.
“It would be recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed who also recently returned from official trip in Lagos met with Mohammed Atiku Abubakar in the Aero Contractors aircraft where they shook hands and exchanged pleasantaries”,he said.

According to him, the governor did not show symptoms of the COVID-19 pandemic but that based on recommendation from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, the governor will remain in self-isolation to aviod spreading the pandemic.
He said the blood samples of the governor has been taken and undergoing clinical test, and that the governor and his entourage will remain in isolation pending the outcome of the result and consequently cancelled all appointments with immediate effect.
