KADUNA, Nigeria – Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has tested positive to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. The governor who announced the development this evening said, earlier in the week he had submitted himself for the COVID-19 pandemic test, adding that the result that came this evening unfortunately turned out to be positive.

He has therefore proceeded on self-isolation as required by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control(NCDC).

“Earlier this week, I submitted a sample for the Covid-19 test. The result came in this evening, and I regret to say that it is positive.

“According to the protocols for managing Covid-19, I am in self-isolation as required by the case management guidelines of the NCDC for a someone that is no showing symptoms. I wish to appeal to the people of Kaduna State to continue to closely observe the preventive measures already announced.

“It is most important that everybody should do their utmost to stay safe, stay home and stay alive. The Deputy Governor is chairing our Covid-19 Taskforce and will continue to issue statements from time to time”, he said.

Earlier, today, two clerics were arrested for conducting congregational prayers in violation of Kaduna State public health preventive measures.

A statement by the Kaduna State Government said that those involved in the violation, Malam Aminu Umar Usman and Malam Umar Shangel will be prosecuted.

The clerics had in a video which went viral congregated tens of followers and disabusing their minds that there was nothing like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governments, including the Kaduna State Government had banned public gathering exceeding 50.
