COVID-19: US returnees quarantined in Lagos
LAGOS, Nigeria – A family of four children and their teacher who recently returned from the United States of America and suspected for COVID-19 has been isolated at the Biosecurity Facility of the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, the Lagos State Government has said.
Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who disclosed this today at a news conference to give updates on COVID19 in Lagos stated that the four children and their teacher were in close proximity with someone who had coronavirus infection.
He explained further that the first test carried out on them was negative adding that a confirmation tests will still be repeated to determine the next point of action.

Abayomi also announced that a man who recently returned from the UK and suspected for COVID19 is in Isolation at the Mainland Hospital noting that his samples have been collected and test being conducted to determine his status.
The Commissioner revealed that the three suspected persons from France, England and China who had earlier been in isolation at the Mainland Hospital tested negative and have been discharged.
He explained that the index case is responding well to treatment adding that his viral load is going down significantly with no symptoms exhibited. He however stated that he cannot be released into the community now until the virus is undetectable and cannot infect others.
“The index case is gradually recovering but we need to carry out more tests on him just to be sure of his status and if the virus is undetectable, we will repeat the test a few more times and discharge him afterwards”, he said.
On the second confirmed case, Abayomi noted that he is doing well with no major symptoms but only exhibits minor aches and pains. He noted that more tests will be conducted on him based on the prevailing circumstances.

“We have given him drugs to slow down the virus and we hope his immune system will resist the virus and we will continue to keep him until he is no longer contagious,” he said.
Answering question on the people that earlier left Lagos for other States in the country, the Commissioner stated that the information has been passed on to the National Center for Diseases Control (NCDC) so that they will be tracked in the States they have gone to with the assistance of the Epidemiologists from the states.
Abayomi revealed that the two passengers on the Turkish Airline who could not be traced because of wrong information have been found within 24 hours when their names were published by the media adding that the State have already gotten in touch with them.
He advised the members of the public to continue observing both environmental and personal hygiene by washing their hands regularly with soap and clean running water as well as keep their environment very clean.

COVID-19: SANWO-OLU RECEIVES MANAGEMENT TEAM OF LAFARGE
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday received the management team of Lafarge Africa who came on a “thank you” visit to the Lagos State government for the Governor and his team’s brilliant effort in combating the spread of Coronavirus.
Governor Sanwo-Olu while receiving the team led by the Country Chief Executive Officer, CCEO Khaled El Dokani, at the Lagos House, Marina praised the organisation for its collaborative efforts towards stemming the spread of the virus after the first index case was discovered within its premises.
He described as encouraging, the openness and supportive action of Lafarge from the first day till date, saying that it has led to quick arrest of the case in Nigeria.

The Governor said he was happy to welcome the team thanking the company for their contribution over the years to the construction industry through their products.
It is very unfortunate that we have it (Coronavirus) in our country but I want to thank you for the collaboration and all the efforts between our sister State, your organization and of course the Federal government and how we’ve been able to address and curtail the incident thus far.
“We can only but continue to work together in harmony, we can only continue to understand and appreciate that we are the same but we are only different sides of the coin. The bottom line is we want to continue to provide safety and improve the quality of life for our people: whilst you do that for your stakeholders we do that for the entire State and the nation. We’ll continue to see reasons and a means of engagement and collaboration. We’ll continue to do that.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the State government would continue to look at avenues to partner with the company in construction saying it would continue to deliver and improve on good governance to Lagosians.
On his part, Khalid praised the Governor and his team for their swift response to the “unfortunate” situation and said that he is confident that it will soon be a thing of the past.
According to him: “We want to extend Our deepest appreciation for the support we received from the Governor of Lagos in managing the unfortunate situation that took place at our Ewekoro plant and we would really want to express our gratitude for all the support, the solidarity, the professionalism and the one team approach in overcoming such situation which we all hope will soon be over.”
